Parenting children with ADHD can be challenging but with consistent home practices, can help the household run smoothly as well as create a well balanced child or adolescent. Children with ADHD should be given clear and brief rules, having a clear understanding of what is expected of them. Children and adolescents should be given chores to help prepare them for adulthood and give them a sense of responsibility which helps to boost their self-esteem. Routines are important for children with ADHD as it gives them a sense of normalcy and support. Build on your child's talents and abilities as it will also help boost their self-esteem and worth. Lastly, Reward and praise your child or adolescent when they are behaving and doing what they are supposed to do. Remember though, that progress is often made in a series of small steps and praise will encourage and motivate them towards success!
